Yeah that has always confused me because I thought the name was significant but it really wasn’t. Lorelai is just dwelling on the past and how she could have succeeded in college. She was top of her class until she had Rory. She is thinking how she could have gone to college and been successful bus then when Rory interrupts her, she realizes that she has a great life and she is proud of Rory. :)
